Mount M’Goun (4,071m) is Morocco’s second-highest peak and the centrepiece of the Central High Atlas — a world of deep gorges, high plateaux, and Berber villages that feel genuinely remote in a way that Toubkal’s crowded huts no longer do.
Day 1: Tinghir to Arous
4×4 transfer from Tinghir to the village of Arous (2 hours). Afternoon acclimatisation walk through the Arous gorge. Dinner and overnight in a family gîte. Altitude: 1,800m.
Day 2: Arous to the Tizi Plateau
Full trekking day. The path climbs steadily through juniper forest and open scree to the Tizi n’Ait Imi pass (3,800m). The panorama from the top — the Atlas stretching to the horizon in every direction — is among the finest views in Morocco. Descent to a plateau camp or gîte. Distance: 18km. Altitude gain: 2,000m.
Day 3: Plateau to Agouti
A gentler day — the plateau allows you to walk at altitude with wide views before a gradual descent to the Tessaout Valley and the village of Agouti. This is the day for photography: the high plateau light is extraordinary. Overnight at Agouti gîte.
Day 4: Agouti to Tinghir
Final morning walk through the valley before 4×4 transfer back to Tinghir (2.5 hours). Arrive in time for a sunset dinner in the old town.
