Todra Gorge Hiking Tour

Full Day (8h) Max Max 8 People ★ 4.97 (183 reviews) Difficulty: Moderate From €65/person

Where the Earth Opens Up

There are landscapes that humble you. Todra Gorge is one of them. Standing at the narrow entrance where 300-metre walls of rose-gold limestone close in on either side, the sky reduced to a ribbon of blue above you and the cold Todra River threading between your boots — you understand in your body what no photograph can convey.

This full-day hike takes you through the full length of the gorge, into the upper canyon where the crowds dissolve and the geology becomes overwhelming in the best possible way. Your Berber guide, who grew up in the villages above this canyon, reads the rock like a second language — pointing out fossils 300 million years old, naming the birds spiralling on thermals overhead, and choosing the precise spot by the river where you’ll eat the best tagine of your trip.

Full Day Itinerary

08:00 — Pick-up from your Tinghir accommodation. Short 15-minute 4×4 transfer to the gorge entrance as the morning light begins to paint the canyon walls orange.

08:30 — Lower Gorge Walk. Trek the 1.5km lower gorge. At the narrowest point — just 10 metres wide — the walls soar to their full 300m height. Cool, dramatic, unforgettable.

10:30 — Upper Canyon Hike (away from crowds). The path narrows, the rock changes colour, and the silence deepens. Look for cliff swallows, Barbary macaques, and seasonal wildflowers.

13:00 — Lunch in the Palm Oasis. Join a local family for a home-cooked tagine. Sit on cushions, drink fresh mint tea, and hear stories about life in this canyon.

15:00 — Optional River Walk or Rock-Watching. Afternoon light on the canyon walls is extraordinary for photography.

16:30 — Return to Tinghir. Optional stop at the panoramic viewpoint for golden-hour photos.
